The 13th of May was wheels up for 3 weeks in Mexico. The heartbeat of this trip was to cast vision around a United day of Prayer and Fasting in Mexico City on Day of the Dead. The vision has grown a lot in my heart over the last 18 months but now it was time to see if that could translate to others. So I created a loose itinerary and scheduled as many vision casting moments as I could and trusted that God would open doors.
A few days before I left, my elder brother Brian purchased and gave me the classic book Cross and the Switchblade, believing there was something key in that book for my trip and this fledgling ministry. As I flew to Mexico City I read the words that had sustained David Wilkinson decades beforehand from the book of Zechariah, Not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord. Only a few days later Kate texted me the same verse so I was assured that this was going to be all about the Holy Spirit opening doors.
Two days after landing in Mexico City I jumped on a bus to a city a few hours north called Queretaro. I had been invited there by the YWAM leaders who had seen my video about the vision. I had an incredible 24 hours with Rob and Kathryn as they shared that God had been breaking down disunity in their city through citywide prayer and fasting events. There was such an alignment between what God has been doing there and the vision God gave me. They pledged their support and confirmed that they believe this is the right time for Mexico for a movement like this.
I returned to Mexico City on the Friday and spent the next few days sharing at a conference a few hours south of CDMX, preaching at my friends church on the Sunday and going on prayer walks at the Olympic Stadium. Everywhere I shared about the vision I got the same response of incredible openness and offers to connect me with other pastors and ministry leaders. It was incredible the level of favour God was showing. I felt physically exhausted due to the heatwave, jet lag, elevation and sore stomach but God was doing great things.
While in Mexico City we had a leadership meeting of our newly forming team. Lou Engle zoomed in from Colorado Springs and gave us some great input around how he had mobilized 400 000 people for the first Call in 2001 and how to cast vision that connects with the heart cry of the masses. It was a great meeting where Lou and Kate confirmed that 18 months is needed to do this right so we adjusted towards Day of the Dead 2025.
Next stop was Guadalajara. I visited my first YWAM leader from 30 years ago, spent a few nights with an Aussie friend from Tamworth living there and then a few days with the YWAM leaders. One of the YWAM leaders connected me with Humberto who is the national director of Alpha in Mexico. We had a great meeting and you could feel the alignment of spirit. He said that he believed the vision was from God and that Alpha Mexico would support in any way they could.
Last stop was Mazatlan and all our friends there. It was so good to catch up with so many people and cast the vision again. Everyone I spoke with was super encouraging and offered key connections to leaders who would love the vision. While in Mazatlan we started shooting the vision video that we will use to spread the message to pastors and ministry leaders.
I returned to Australia 3 weeks later tired but very encouraged that God has by His Spirit been opening key doors. There is lots of work to do around securing a venue, creating a website and starting mobisation but I have a deep sense that this is the right time for a prayer and fasting movement in Mexico to be a catalyst for revival in that country.
The next steps in Mexico will probably be a series of pastors breakfasts in key cities in Nov 2024. Please pray for us as we start the work of setting these up and thank you for all the love, prayers and support to get us this far.
