It was 15 months ago that we returned from an incredible year in Mexico in which we got to witness first hand and participate in so much of what God is doing in that country. We returned to Australia but we knew that it wasn’t the end of our Mexico story. Our Mexico story started with our first trip in 1993, continued over the last decade with hosting multiple trips of taking young Australians there for mission and then this last season of living there for 2022. So we are not surprised that God continues to speak to us about a country we love and how we can mission into that country.
So we are writing to give you a quick update on what God has been doing in our hearts over this last year. You may remember me saying as we returned to Australia that we felt like there was unfinished business or still a passion project to play out there.
In late 2021 as we were being sent to Mexico for the year 2022 as missionaries, something happened. It was unexpected, exciting as well as daunting. As we were commissioned and prayed for by our small group, I saw in my mind's eye, a stadium of young adults in Mexico City praying and fasting for their country. I was immediately reminded of my days running with The Call during 2002-2004 to see young people mobilised into massive gatherings of Prayer and Fasting for the purpose of revival.
I didn’t want to say too much about this vision in the early stages but I stored it in my heart and asked that God would confirm it or not. During 2022 I met so many young people in Mexico with a similar passion to see their nation turn. It seemed to me that God was stirring and confirming something.
In August 2022, while doing a visa run to the US, I was able to meet with the founder of The Call, Lou Engle, to run the vision past him of staging a “Call” like event in Mexico. During the next few hours I was commissioned by Lou Engle to take a double portion mantel of “The Call” for stadium gatherings of Prayer and Fasting and run with it in Mexico. Lou said that now after doing long fasts for 20 years, the time was ready for me to expand territory into Mexico. During this commissioning time with Lou, I shared that the Lord had put a breakthrough of the three big Cs of Mexico in my heart as I had prayed and fasted for 40 days for Mexico while living there. The Cartels, Corruption and Catholic Church. He suggested that their authority flows from the false worship of “San Muerte” and that the perfect day to prayer for revival and life in Mexico would be on the annual day they worship death.
During 2022, many people spoke the phrase “It’s Mexico’s time”. I felt the Lord speak many times to me that it is in fact Mexico's time if they will pray and fast and seek his face for the healing of their land. So during the last couple of months, as I have worked with my hands, I have felt the Lord stirring me to dream big and ask the Lord to stir One Million Mexicans to pray and fast on that day, the Day of the Dead, November 2nd 2024 for revival in their country. Whether they join us in Mexico City or host gatherings in their hometowns, that they would join a rising tide of prayer and fasting for the shifting of the spiritual atmosphere over that nation.
It’s a huge vision and it’s not lost on me all the obstacles it represents, so I’m asking you to consider partnering with us as we step out again.
The strategy that we have is fairly simple. Kate and I will go to Mexico City in May to convene our Vision team with some of the young passionate Mexicans we know. Then comes 6 months of promotion, mobilisation and vision-casting in Mexico. I will be using the Spanish versions of my books and speaking in as many churches, minister fraternals, para church ministries and student groups as possible to stir the vision of a united, fervent National Day of Prayer and Fasting on the 2nd of Nov 2024 in Mexico City.
Would you consider joining or rejoining our sending team as we pioneer this important ministry?
- We need an intercessory team to pray for our family this year. We are aware that it is a massive spiritual battle we are heading into.
- Kate’s back is still very painful. Would you pray for a breakthrough so we can travel and pioneer this together.
- We need Financial support to cover expenses at home as well as a travel budget for Mexico. My plan is to continue working as a handy man whenever back in Australia.
- We need a mobilisation team of Mexicans (we have a small but growing network of contacts across the Country) who are willing to use any method they have, to get the word out and echo the call to gather.
- We need an operations team to execute all logistical aspects of the gathering.
- We need a budget and fundraiser for the costs of the event itself. And we need favour as a friend of mine living in Mexico City is scoping out which stadium might work.
