YWAM Mexico

I went there originally after feeling a strong pull one night at the headlands of Bondi. We were always praying up there, every Wednesday night for the city. This night we were praying about the Sydney Mardi Gras. I knew they have a Mardi Gras in Mazatlan called Carnival because I had heard great stories from my brother Greg and his wife Harmony, about the YWAM outreaches.

I shared about my idea to go and join the team over there and I had 4 keen takers.

We met as a team to prepare each week. We raised and saved our money up and headed out. It was the most amazing experience. From the moment we landed until the moment we left God was moving in our hearts. We heard him so clearly. The worship was phenomal, and bilingual! I loved leading worship in Spanish. It was like there was only a thin divide between heaven and earth there. We shared the gospel openly with over 500 people. We lead many to the Lord. We saw many miraculously healed. And all the while God was building our faith. Working in our hearts and minds. Breathing his life over us all in this incredible place. I’m not really sure why things were like that.

I have no doubt it was because God loves the Mexicans and he desired for them to experience him. It was also because of the hard work blood, sweat and tears the pioneers of that YWAM base had shed. I don’t say that lightly as they gave up all their rights to go there. They slept in strange beds in strange houses all squashed in to save money. They stuck in there after half of the original team decided it wasn’t for them. They went through loss and tragedy. Yet they stayed faithful to the call God had chosen for them and for Mazatlan.

So here we stand on the threshold. Poised to go and pick up the baton. To join the marathon for Mazatlan. We are excited and as we lean in, there is much anticipation. Not long now. Sometimes doubts creep in. I wish I could ask my Dad for advice. But I guess we all know what he’d say. He say, “go for it!.” - Kate
