The other morning I was on worship and I woke up 6:30am. The moon was still up shining out over the water and it may as well have been middle of the night it was so dark. By the time I got up to the YWAM base to start rehearsing at 7 am I could see the sun’s first rays shining up above the buildings so I snuck over to watch the sunrise before the soundcheck. I was impacted by the power of light over darkness.
I guess over here the change between day and night seems to happen very quickly. It doesn’t take long between when it’s dark like the middle of the night and when the brightness of the sun shines boldly.
We had a really great morning of worship. During that time I just kept thinking about how the darkness is pushed out by light. The bible says in 1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all” and is complemented by John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
As we got into the worship set there was a point where we paused to reflect on what God was doing in that moment. A moment to reflect after having sung two or three worship songs, suddenly I just felt a real passion to go after depression in people‘s lives and to read 2 Timothy 1:7 . We declared it in English and Spanish multiple times. We asked God to come and bring his light, to take away the depression steeped in the darkness. To bring healing over our minds. To bring healing to people‘s mental health. So often we pray for our physical health, but it’s a lot harder sometimes to pray for people‘s mental health because it feels like it’s such a big giant and it feels like it takes a lot longer than one worship session to overcome, but I believe God can heal any kind of health whether it be physical or mental. He can do it in His time and in His way. So we spent time praying collectively, with so much faith in the room, believing the truth. God is light and darkness has no place in him at all. Where there is light the darkness must flee.
After that we sang the song “King of my heart” and there was an eruption of celebration amongst the people present. Of joy and a sense of lightness in this place, after having done some business with God. We were calling heaven down to earth. It got a little bit rowdy. It reminded me of David bringing in the ark of the covenant. Dancing and shouting. “you are good, you are good, you’re never gonna let me down, you’re never gonna let me down.” What a joy to be able to lead that time. To watch the transformation of these young people’s lives. Their faces as the weight of the darkness was lifting off. Later on a few people came and told me that the word was for them. I was able to spend time with them individually. To listen and validate their struggle. To pray together.
I know that God is always up to something. When we get on board with what he’s doing it gets exciting. I wasn’t going to be on worship that Monday because there was a possibility that I was going to go with Matt to Durango but in the end I really felt like I needed to stay back and just keep doing the things that God has here for me to do.
I really want to encourage you that God cares so much about every single one of us, and where our head is at. He cares about our whole being. He cares about everything little thing. He is devoted and committed to walking with us in our healing. His heart for us is wholeness.
